Tropical Dessert from the grill

Pineapple tastes fantastic in chunks, rings, or in fruit salads. But have you ever put it on the grill? Doing so brings out its unique flavor component.

Cutting the tropical fruit can be a headache for many people, but it doesn't have to be! While some opt for pre-cut pineapple from the supermarket shelf, you avoid plastic waste by chopping it yourself. Here is our step-by-step guide:

  1. Cut off the stem and the bottom of the pineapple
  2. Use a sharp knife to remove the flesh from the skin by cutting along the curvature
  3. Slice the pineapple into slices
  4. Cut out the core part using a shot glass or a knife

Fun Fact: Pineapple contains the bromelain enzyme, which can break down proteins in your mouth while eating and cause a tingling or burning sensation.

Grilled pineapple from the gas grill - the ingredients:

  • One fresh, ripe pineapple
  • Natural yogurt
  • 3 tbsp brown sugar
  • A few leaves of fresh mint
  • Optional: Vanilla ice cream (also tastes great without)

Instructions

1. Finely chop the mint leaves

2. Peel the pineapple and slice it into thick slices; remove the core from the center of the slices to create a nice ring shape

3. Grill the slices on each side over medium heat for about 2 minutes or until a light grill pattern is visible

4. Mix the brown sugar with the mint, preferably using a mortar until the sugar turns slightly green. Then combine it with the natural yogurt

5. Serve the grilled pineapple slices with a dollop of mint yogurt. For those who like it, you can also serve the pineapple with vanilla ice cream - simply delicious

Enjoy your meal!
